2015 Calgary Stampede Youth & Agriculture in Action Showcase. Get Signed up Now!

Hey 4-H Alberta clubs! Put on your creative thinking hats! We’re asking for your creativity and engagement for the 2015 Youth & Agriculture in Action Showcase, July 7 - 10, 2015. This year the Showcase will include a competitive aspect, as clubs will be judged daily by the public for the “Best Display of the Day”.

Awesome daily prizes will include: 

• Chuckwagon Barn Tour 
• Rodeo Tour 
• VIP access to the Corral or Super Dogs Show, or 
• VIP Stagecoach ride with the Express Hitch in front of the Grandstand!

Club members are encouraged to create interactive, hands-on and engaging displays for Stampede guests, while members have the opportunity to practice public speaking skills, show off their projects to 100,000+ guests per day,as well as have access to Stampede Park for two days. Some examples of interactive and engaging displays may include: dog agility courses by Canine clubs, Rodeo obstacle course (i.e. with a hobby horse) by a Rodeo Club, a guest engaging improv. performance by a Performing Arts club, a camera explanation or photo taking & sharing activity by a Life Skills club, or a Multi or Livestock club could provide demos on how to fit cattle for a show or how to show or set-up their show animals. Animals for display are also encouraged! We challenge you to be creative and unique!

Please fill out the application form, as well as a detailed explanation of your display area. We will review all proposed ideas and choose the best applications for the two 2-day blocks (based on requested space). All selected clubs will be notified by May 10 and then asked to provide additional event requirements, such as parking, camping and accreditation needs.

Camping will be available at Cobb’s Corn Maze – 20 minutes east of Calgary on Hwy 1 past Stoney Trail. There will be no power hook-ups, but a water and sewer truck will be available. Parking passes will be provided to clubs for day parking at Stampede Park, so clubs are encouraged to car pool. More details to follow.

Calgary Stampede 2014 Youth in Action Showcase Recap!

The Calgary Stampede has come and gone for another year and a highlight during all of the excitement, the Youth in Action Showcase has concluded.

During this year's July 4 - 11th Calgary Stampede, an area of the Agriculture Building was transformed into an engaging and energetic 4-H Showcase. 4-H members had the opportunity to interact with Stampede guests from around the world and showcase their 4-H talents, projects and knowledge. This year members showcased their poultry, swine, horse, and rabbit 4-H Projects, to name a few of the diverse projects and activities that were on display.

In addition, the Calgary Stampede generously provided 4-H Alberta with a display booth for the entire seven days. This opportunity allowed 4-H Alberta to interact with youth and families and inform them about 4-H and the benefits of being part of this great program.

To add a little more attraction to the 4-H Alberta booth this year we included sack races and hula hoop competitions for the kids, a straw bale couch for families to relax on, lego tables (to showcase one of our many projects) and the “Wall of Cleaver”, which showcased art work of Cleaver at our booth.

Kids’ Day was held Wednesday July 9^th, which for the 4-H booth, was a highlight of this year’s events.  The 4-H Alberta booth face painted 50 little faces and collected more than 150 coloring pages to help decorate the “Wall of Cleaver”!

Of course the Youth in Action Showcase would not have been as successful for the 4-H Alberta booth if it had not been for all the hard working volunteers who helped man the booth throughout the week. A big thanks to Elaine Manor, Lorraine Parkinson, Heather Pfeil, Bailey Pfeil, Raina Irons, Arlyn Bouchard, Oliver Mcateer, Siera Burg, Cathy Price, and face painters, Heather Ayles and Candace Knull, for their dedication and contributions. Thank you to everyone who stopped by! Hope to see you next year!

Agrium Western Event Centre Official Grand Opening!

The official grand opening event for the Agrium Western Event Centre will take place Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Stampede Park.  All 4-H families are welcome to attend! 

 

Calling on Clubs to Participate in the Calgary Stampede's Youth and Agriculture in Action Showcase

The Calgary Stampede, known as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, is a 10-day western festival that takes place during the month of July each year.  The Calgary Stampede presents spectacular cultural exhibits, midway, agricultural programming, rodeo, chuckwagon racing and an evening show.

Together, the Calgary Stampede and 4-H Alberta, can engage 1.2 million guests of the Calgary Stampede into the world of agriculture through the eyes of today’s youth.  

During the Calgary Stampede, from July 4-11, 2014, an area of the Agriculture Building will be transformed into an engaging and energetic 4-H Showcase.  Participants will have the opportunity to interact with our Stampede guest and showcase their talents and accomplishments.  

A minimum 2 day commitment is required.

During Stampede, members are to help transform an area of the Stampede into an engaging and energetic 4-H Showcase.  Participants can showcase their talents, accomplishments and even provide live demonstrations.
