Breef Breed Promotional Items

4-H Alberta would like to thank each individual Beef Breed Association for enhancing the 4-H program through continued support to Beef Clubs across the province.

Their commitment to supplying breed prizes to members that showcased their breed in the given club year is highly appreciated.

Moving forward to 2014 and beyond, each Beef breed association will not be using the Government Courier Office to ship the Breed Association awards and promotional items at the request of 4-H Alberta.

Breed Associations will continue to recognize 4-H youth who are the future of the Alberta beef industry. 4-H Alberta is currently in contact with the beef breed associations to create an easier solution moving forward.
Please see select messages from some of our current Beef Breed Associations about their plans moving forward with the beef breed awards this year. For more contact information for other breed associations please click on the link below:

The MAN VAN onsite at 4-H on Parade: Improving Rural Health, One Man at a Time

Combines for Cures Testing Event Presents: The MAN VAN at 4-H on Parada

Improving rural health, one man at a time.

Saturay, May 31, 2014 the Prostate Cancer Centre (PCC) will have the Rural MAN VAN onsite at the 4-H on Parade at the Calgary Stampede Park so that men over age 40 can stop by and have a free baseline PSA blood test.

All members, leaders and attendees should encourage men 40+ to visit the MAN VAN.

Why

Prostate Cancer, in its early stages has no symptoms and one in seven Alberta men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime according to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Early detection saves lives! Through information from a PSA blood test and other diagnostic tools, Prostate Cancer is one of the most successfully treated types of cancer, but only when detected early.

When

Saturday, May 31, 2014
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

What is Combines for Cures?

Last spring, Prostate Cancer Centre (PCC), with sponsorship from Agrium, together with its CPS Division, Richardson Pioneer and Western Feedlot, along with others in ag industry, launched a fundraising project called Combines for Cures. Its ultimate purpose is to save the lives of rural men.

One of the ways the Combines for Cures pilot project is reaching its rural demographic is through its MAN VAN, a mobile unit staffed Centre staff and nurses.  On scheduled dates it offers on-the-spot baselines PSA blood testing at a variety of locations.

Combines for Cures Goals

  • To test 50% of all males of 40 or more years of age in rural Alberta by 2020
  • To raise two million annual by 2015 and maintain program administration costs of 11% by 2015
  • To implement research and education programs in areas of prostate cancer prevention, awareness and treatment through applicable studies, education links to rural physicians and corporate and community awareness events commencing in 2012

All of us have a father, uncle, brother or son that we do not want to see affected by Prostate Cancer.  Early detecting is key!

Visit 4-H on Parade and send the men you love to get tested, after all Prostate Cancer, is the most common cancer to afflict the men we love.
